Applicant Information
Radiography
Associate in Science Degree
The introduction of a wide range of new technology in the medical field has paved the way for an increasing number of technologists skilled in the latest diagnostic techniques.
This program is designed to prepare the student for employment as a Radiographer (RT). The radiographer’s primary role is to operate imaging equipment and perform technical procedures to produce x-ray studies for the diagnosis and treatment of injury and disease.
Radiography is a challenging and growing profession with additional career opportunities in computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, mammography, angiography, and quality assurance. Most radiographers are employed in hospitals. However, there are also positions for qualified professionals in specialized imaging centers, urgent care clinics, private physician offices, industry, and civil service and public health service facilities.
The program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology. Graduates are eligible to take the national certifying examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and meet state licensure requirements.
RADIOGRAPHER
Radiographers provide patient services using imaging equipment as directed by physicians. Professional competence requires that radiographers apply knowledge of anatomy, physiology, positioning, radiographic technique, and radiation protection to produce images of the body.
Radiographers must exercise independent judgment in the performance of imaging procedures and be able to communicate effectively with patients, other health professionals and the public. Duties include maintaining patient records, image processing, assisting the radiologist in the performance of procedures and initiating basic life support techniques as necessary.
OPPORTUNITIES
Good-Employment is in hospitals, clinics, physician’s offices, specialized imaging centers, public health facilities, educational institutions and government institutions. RT’s usually work forty hours per week but various day, night, weekend rotation assignments are used. Related specialities include: nuclear medicine, radiation therapy, ultrasound, angiography, interventional radiography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, PET imaging and cardiovascular imaging.

GENERAL PROGRAM INFORMATION
The program curriculum includes all courses that are required for the Radiography Associate in Science Degree. A minimum grade of “C” must be achieved in all courses identified in the program curriculum, including courses required for admission.
There is one pre-requisite course: BSC 2093C – Human Anatomy and Physiology I.
The following courses can be completed before acceptance into the Radiography Program:
ENC 1101 Freshman Composition I
MAC 1105 College Algebra
PSY 1012 General Psychology
HSC 1531 Medical Terminology
BSC 2094C Human Anatomy PhysiologyII
CGS 1060 Introduction to Microcomputers
Elective Humanities/Fine Arts
After being accepted into the Radiography Program, the Radiography courses in the curriculum are progressive in nature with one course building on the preceding course. Because of this progressive relationship, all courses in a session must be successfully completed with a grade of “C” or better in order to continue to the next session. If a student achieves less than a “C” or withdraws before or after the college deadline, from any course that is required for the Radiography Associate in Science Degree, they will not be allowed to continue in the program.
Students who are not allowed to continue in the program may petition for readmission to the Health Science Petition Committee.
Students wishing to satisfy requirements for the Radiography Associate in Science Degree with courses other than those identified, should seek advisement from the Allied Health Program Advisor.
Admission to the College does not imply acceptance to the Radiography Program, a specific application is required. The Division of Health Sciences provides academic and career counseling and information about specific admission criteria.
