Admissions Checklist

Admission to the Cardiovascular Technology Program is limited to applicants selected by the College-Wide Health Sciences Admission Committee.

Students selected enter in August (Fall Term) of each year.

______  1.  Students must submit a completed College Application for Admission by the College Application Deadline and meet the college admission requirements for degree-seeking students.  College entryl assessments, Computerized Placement Tests (CPT), and all mandatory courses in reading, student success, mathematics, English and English for Academic Purposes must be completed prior  to submitting the CVT Program Application.  Visit Valencia’s Web site at http://valenciacc.edu/admissions/ or contact Enrollment Services

_____ 2.  BSC 2093 Human Anatomy and Physiology I must be completed with a minimum grade of “C” (see prerequisite for admission) prior to admission into the Cardiovascular Technology Program.  Anatomy and Physiology I is a prerequisite for the Anatomy and Physiology II and Microbiology courses at VCC. 

______3.  Students must complete the  Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) prior to submitting the CVT program application.  Applicants must earn a TEAS Composite Score of 75% and a Composite Reading Score of 75%.  Students must have a Valencia College Application on file to test in a Valencia Assessment Office, and students are limited to taking the exam 3 times per year.  The cost is $40. 

_____ 4.  Applicants must have an overall college GPA of 2.5

 

_____ 5.  Applicants must submit a Cardiovascular Technology application* before the scheduled deadline:  June 1st for Fall Term (August).

______6.  Applicants must have three letters of references completed and results submitted before application deadline of June 1st.

_____  7. A $15 non-refundable fee payable to Valencia Community College must be submitted to the Busines Office (SSB 101) with each application.  Turn in the completed program application prior to June 1st to the Health Sciences Advising Office located on the West Campus in Building 2, room 208.

_____ 8. A formal interview with the Program Chair may be required.

                       

Note:   No student will be admitted into two (2) different Valencia Community College Health Related Programs within an academic year.

Please Note:

Students accepted into the program will be notified of the program orientation meeting prior to the start of the term.   

The orientation letter will notify applicants of the process required to  complete a background check and deadlines for completion.  Failure to meet the deadline will prevent the student from starting classes.  Applicants with a positive background check may be denied admission into the program.  Applicants having concerns regarding their background are encouraged to make contact with the Career Program Advisor well in advance of the deadline date.

Background Check Protocols Include:

Applicants for Valencia Community College Health Sciences Programs must be free of offenses that would disqualify them from a student clinical experience in a health care setting and must have their civil rights intact.  This policy is in response to requirements by clinical agencies and State/Federal regulations.

Each applicant must be screened by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for criminal history.  Each applicant must have a Social Security Verification, Residency History, Nationwide Sexual Offense Registry Search, Nationwide Healthcare Fraud/Abuse Scan, and a US Patriot Act/OFCA search.  A Nationwide Criminal Search is also required if the applicant has worked, resided, or has been a student outside of Florida during the 2 year period prior to the start of any Health Science Program at Valencia.
