Ruben Aquino-De Jesus, Career Program Advisor
Prior to joining Valencia I served twenty seven years in the military service. My first two years in the Telecommunications arena provided me with the understanding/ importance of maintaining clear communications systems. The next six years I continued my service as a Medical Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) where I experienced and provided for needs that patients require during their treatment or recovering phase. I continued expanding my knowledge to better serve the community by obtaining my EMT certificate and also provided training/license as a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitator Instructor.
Thereafter, I obtained my diploma as Unit Supply Specialist (Logistics) and served in the 201st Evacuation Hospital for three years. After my promotion to Staff Sergeant I was assigned as Training NCO ensuring all soldiers complied with their Military Occupational Specialty training requirements. I obtained my bachelors degree in Business Administration (Columbia College, Caguas, PR) in April of 2000. I assumed responsibilities as Readiness NCO when promoted to Sergeant First Class, responsible for the readiness posture of a Battalion of Soldiers to be prepared for deployment within three days notice. Finally my last years in the service I supervised the Personnel Administration Center with the custodian responsibilities of all soldier’s Medical, Training, Administrative, and Financial records. In addition, I provided services to their dependents and next of kin.
I began my career with Valencia in February 2003 as Staff Assistant II for the Transitions Planning Department. Managed six budget grants, ordered supplies for transition specialists, maintained daily schedules and coordinated presentations and transportation requirements for High School students to attend a variety of presentations such as “A Better Place to Start” and others. Maintained accurate data base for College Representatives participating in “College Night” and students attending our “Road Rules” student orientation.
In March 2004 I began working at the “Answer Center” as a Student Service Specialist providing students/potential students with admission requirements, financial aid, and educational advising. I obtained my Master’s degree in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix, Orlando, FL on November 2005. On October 2008 I began my role as Career Program Advisor for the Health Services Department where I will assist/serve you in with the in-processing requirements. I am a grandfather of three, love to work in wood projects, and overall love to share my experiences and guide other people to achieve their goals.
