- Academic Advising
Advising/Counseling staff provide developmental advising which
includes career and educational planning, interpretation of
placement assessments, strategies to address academic
difficulties, semester-by- semester schedule planning, preparation
for university transfer, and workforce preparedness. The
Advising/Counseling staff will assist you in achieving your career
and education goals in a productive and efficient manner.
Students can obtain information on: degrees offered at Valencia;
transfer information for the ten state universities, advisement on
academic policies, information on improving academic skills, and
information on the process of transferring to a four year college or
university.
- Transfer Assistance
Advising/Counseling staff maintain transfer manuals for the ten
state universities. These manuals include information on entrance
requirements, prerequisite requirements and course listings for
each major taught at the university level. Applications for state
universities are also available in the Advising and Counseling
center.
- New Student Orientation
All new students to the college are required to participate in
a New Student Orientation session before registering for their
first semester. New Student Orientation includes a campus tour,
information on educational planning and college resources, and
group advising after which students can register for classes by
telephone or in person with an appointment card. Following application
to Valencia, new students should contact the Advising and Counseling
Office to make an appointment for New Student Orientation.
- Personal Counseling
The West Campus Advising and Counseling center offers limited
personal counseling and referral services. Contact any
counselor/advisor for additional referral information.
- Skillshop Educational Series
Faced with mounting stress, competition, and social and academic
pressures, today's student must be very well prepared in a wide
variety of areas. To enhance our students educational experiences,
West Campus Advising and Counseling Center offers a series of
workshops each semester to address some of these issues.
- General Information
The Advising and Counseling Center provides general information
and referrals for most academic questions. In some cases, we may
need to refer you to a specific person or department for questions
we are unable to answer.
- International Advising
Students attending Valencia on any visa must meet with an educational
advisor to international students after completing the admissions
process. After a student is accepted to Valencia, the advisor
offers assistance in creating a schedule, making appropriate referrals
and addressing immigrations related topics.
