Office of Veteran Affairs
What's New
New GI Bill
The Post-9/11 GI Bill (also known as chapter 33 benefits) began on August 1, 2009. Eligibility may be established using active duty service performed on or after 9-11-01. You may apply online by visiting www.va.gov or you may apply in the Office of Veteran Affairs on campus. For more information please visit:
View information about the new G.I. Bill on these two websites:
(Official Site) GIBill.va.gov or Military.com
Please be advised that those students who have elected to apply for the Post 9/11 GI Bill (Ch. 33) the Veteran Affairs office on campus will require a copy of the application VA form 1990 and/or the certificate of eligibility. This will be necessary in order to process your future awards. It is suggested that those documents be turned in when you are submitting your VA certification request.
All Post 9/11 GI Bill recipients registering for classes MUST submit a VA deferment to the business office every semester. This is important so that your classes will not be dropped on the fee payment due dates. This will also allow a $500. book credit in the college book store.
If you are called to active duty you will need to contact this
office as well as the Business office of your status. A copy
of your military orders will be necessary to process your withdrawal
properly.
Effective August 1, 2009 monthly rates
have been increased. See GI
Bill rates page
VA Work Study Available
We periodically have positions open for the VA work
study program. This is a part time job and is sponsored by the Veterans
Administration. It is a minimum wage paying job with no taxes involved.
20-25 hours per week doing basic data entry, helping students with
VA applications and general questions. If you are currently attending
at least 9 credit hours, receiving VA educational benefits and are
interested please contact Debra Delaney on the West campus 407-582-1248
for an application and interview.
Fall 2009-10 Certification Request
Don't forget to submit your VA certification request for fall and spring classes. The earlier received the sooner we can process your
claim. Keep in mind that the VA takes 4 to 6 weeks to process a
new claim. You may not be able to verify your enrollment right away.
The Post 9/11 chapter 33 recipients do not verify their enrollment. Please do not submit your request unless you have completely finished
registering for your classes. This way we will only have minimal
transactions with the VA and less confusion.
