Welcome to Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services!
Mission Statement
Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services (DHHS) exists to provide equal educational access and opportunity to Deaf and Hard of Hearing students through the provision of professional interpreting, speech to text, and advising services. The goals of DHHS are to assist Deaf and Hard of Hearing students with persisting in their education to graduation, with developing self-advocacy skills, and with achieving independence through access to quality education at Valencia. In order to achieve these goals, we strive to work cooperatively with all members of the campus community. Introduction
Whether you are a prospective student, a returning student, a
parent or family member of a student, or an interested browser,
we welcome you and hope you find this website informative.
Valencia Community College has a long history of opening the doors
of educational opportunity to all qualified Deaf and hard of hearing
students.
Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services (DHHS) is part of the Office
for Students with Disabilities (OSD). DHHS has a team of interpreters
and speech to text providers who serve deaf students who participate in
our educational programs and campus activities. Interpreters and
speech to text providers are available on all our campuses.
Julie Balassa is the Assistant Director of the OSD in charge of DHHS. It is her responsibility
oversee services for our Deaf and hard of hearing students on every
Valencia campus. She is also responsible for Assitive Technology services
college-wide.
Our main goal is to assist Deaf and hard of hearing students to
enjoy a successful college career and to develop skills necessary for academic and career success.
We encourage our Deaf and hard of hearing students to participate
in all campus activities and to integrate themselves with their
peers into all aspects of college life.
