Learning Technology and Alternative Delivery

Definitions of Alternative Delivery methods

The principle delivery modes of alternative learning courses at Valencia and their respective class schedules descriptions are:

Type of Course Typical Descriptions
Traditional (C) Course with no online technology used – content is delivered in writing or orally.
Web Enhanced/Facilitated(CW) Course which uses web-based technology to facilitate a face-to-face course. Uses a course management system (CMS) or Web pages to post course information.
Hybrid/ Blended (CW) Course that blends online and face-to-face delivery.

Hybrid – If a course is not over 75% online, over 75% videotape, or over 75% onsite it is called a Hybrid course. Note that you could have Hybrid TV/Online, Hybrid Onsite/Online, Hybrid Onsite/TV, Hybrid Onsite/TV/Online, etc. What makes a course a hybrid is simply the degree of use of the alternative modality.

Online (XW) A course where all of the content is delivered online at Valencia using the college approved course management system.

E.g. a 3 credit/3 contact course students would be required to participate in online activities to meet the contact hour requirement in addition to preparation and study time.

Video-on-Demand (Telecourse)
(QW)
Content is delivered via high-speed Internet connection, videotape, and/or television. Students may come to campus for orientation, review sessions, or testing at Testing Centers, and generally for 11 hours or less per course. Video-on-Demand may use the college’s approved course management system for a blended model.
