Alternative Delivery Standards (ADS) Project History

The following timeline is intended to share the planning, design & development activity involved in the Alternative Delivery Standards Implementation Project.  This page will be updated as activities continue to progress.

Date Activity
1-7-2005 A planning committee consisting of Bill White, Ruth Prather, Patrick Nellis, Bill Mullowney, and Michele McCardle organized the charter for the Alternative Delivery Standards Committee (ADSC)
11-7-2005 Angelique Smith hired as Director. Learning Technology & Alternative Delivery and the Instructional Design team was restructured under the newly formed department within OIT.
12-1-2005 Angelique Smith & Amy Bosley recruit members of ADSC to continue working on draft for Standards Plan. New members included: Louise Pitts, Joe Lynn Look, Ruth Prather, Joe Bivins, Betsy Guimond, Lisa Macon, and Bill White
12-14-2005 The first meeting occurs. The ADSC agrees to work on sections of the draft over the holidays.
1-23-2006 The ADSC reconvenes with another draft agreed to via numerous email communications and collaborations and agrees to make final changes.
2-1-2006 ADSC begins to evaluate Quality Matters program from Maryland Online to support peer evaluation for quality in online course delivery.
2-14-2006 ADSC released the final draft collegewide asking for vigorous discussion around the proposed standards, policies and procedures. The following large groups will have formal discussions about the plan: Instructional Affairs Council, College Learning Council, Faculty Council and all campus Senates and Learning Leadership Team. Comments were sought from representatives from all of these groups. Our goal is to receive your feedback and finalize the plan by early April.
3-2-2006 Amy & Angelique present to College Learning Council. A welcome addition to the ADSC was made through Dr. Cheryl Robinson. She brings the important student services perspective to the planning process. Several days later Amy & Angelique attended the East & West Faculty Senate Meetings to share the plan and gather input from these groups.
4-4-2006 ADSC reconvenes to discuss sugestions from Leadership Teams, Councils and faculty emails and create the final plan.
4-21-2006 Faculty Council approves the finalized plan. Angelique & Amy draft a proposal for a Strategic Budget Initiative to fund the first year of Course Shell Development under the new Alternative Delivery Standards Plan.
   
5-11-2006 Angelique & Amy present at College Learning Council.  Dr. Kaye Walter announces to the college that the plan is to be adopted for collewide use and accepted as standards. We ask CLC to consider the first 15 courses they would like to see placed online as Course Shells through our proposed SBI. We agree to work towards an online AA program.
5-22-2006 Susan Kelly starts to look at new schemas for marketing online courses at Valencia through coordination with ADSC.
5-25-2006 ADSC and the SBI sponsor "Universal Design
for Online Courses through an online seminar service called Magna Publications.
6-8-2006 ADSC raises the question of how to help online students "start right"? Drafts of procedures are shared with Student Services, Records, Deans, and OIT for discussion.
6-29-2006 Request for Development is issues to faculty for the 15 courses for Course Shell Development. The following courses are being requested: ENC 1101, CHM1025C, PSY 1012, GEB 1011, ENC 1002, BSC 1005C, ACG 2021, HUN 2202, MAC 1105, BSC 1020, ACG 2071, AMH 2010, STA 2023, HUM 1020 , POS 2041
8-8-2006 Dr. Karen Borglum joins the ADSC and works with us to continue work on the SBI for Course Shell Development.
8-14-2006 The first group of Course Shell Designers are selected by the ADSC and sent info regarding the Online Course Design Studio.
9-8-2006 Kick-off for Online Course Design Studio commences. Faculty meet their Instructional Designers and shell development work ensues.
8-24-2006 Update on Alternative Delivery Standards Plan and SBI provided to Learning Leadership Team.
9-7-2006 Conversations begin with Libraries about eReserves and online library services for students.
9-13-2006 Faculty Council reviews the "online Start-Right Procedure" document.
9-27-2006 Valencia is accepted as an iTunes University which will further support hte enhacement of online courses with multimedia.
10-5-2006 Amy asks for an extension of our timeline for Course Shell Development to Spring Break 2007. We aer still working on obtaining Quality Matters subscription for evaluating the quality of our Online learning pgograms.
10-10-2006 ADSC begins to invetigate adding a new position ito lead further program development in online. Many models will be reviewed and sdiscused in the coing year.
