Academic Search Premier is a database which indexes approximately 7,600 academic periodicals. Over 3,800 of the titles are available in full-text format. FirstSearch provides you with periodical articles from the following databases relevant to the Supreme Court.
  • Index to Legal Periodicals and Books
  • PAIS
  • Social Science Abstracts
  • ***WilsonSelectPlus (over 1400 full-text periodicals)***

The authorization is the 14 digit bar code on your library card/Valencia student ID. Once connected to FirstSearch, select either the individual database title from the pull down menu, or select the Arts and Humanities group of databases from the pull down menu. Issues & Controversies
is a collection of bimonthly periodical articles on controversial, timely topics.  

The database is especially suited for persuasive, controversial topics. It also provides excellent, comprehensive overviews of these topics and is a good place to begin looking for information.

In Indexes and then through Subject Indexes  under Menu Access you can browse for topic ideas through a hierarchical arrangement of topics.

 

 

 

 
 

LexisNexis Academic Universe

provides access to News Articles, Business and Legal Research, and Medical and Reference Sources.

Over 5,600 sources are indexed. Coverage varies in terms of time depending on the publication.

Both a Quick News Search and a Guided News Search option are available; the default setting for Valencia students is the Guided News Search as it is a more precise way to search

 

 

 

 
New York Times Historical Edition provides complete coverage of the newspaper from 1851 to 1998.  All articles, advertisements, comics and the like are available.  The authorization is the 14 digit bar code on your library card/Valencia student ID.

 

 

 
 

 

 
Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center
is the electronic version of a series of books and articles on controversial topics which examine the topics from all sides, ranging from diametrical opposition to near synonymy and everything in between.

 

 

 

 
Orlando Sentinel provides full text access to the local newspaper from 1985 to the present date.  Both keyword and customized searches can be performed.
 

 

 
SIRS Knowledge Source is an excellent resource for popular periodical articles and government documents. SIRS Researcher covers general topics; SIRS Renaissance covers the arts and humanities from ancient times to the present; and SIRS Government Reporter provides information by and about the U.S. Government. In addition to searching by keyword, SIRS has a very effective subject heading search capability.  Searches can be sorted by relevancy or by date.
