Computer & Internet Acceptable Use

Research computers on the West Campus Library 2nd floor (6-202) provide currently enrolled Valencia students, faculty and staff access to the West Campus Library resources to obtain information for class assignments, subscription-based electronic databases, and Atlas for registration and other school-related business.
Computers in the West Campus Library Computer Access Lab (6-101) and Student Production and Collaborative Education (SPACE) provide currently enrolled Valencia students access to application programs and the Internet in order to enhance course work, complete assignments, and learn to use the Internet.
The privilege of using these computers means that users comply with the guidelines herein, the Valencia Community College Computer Policies and the Valencia Community College Student Conduct Policies.
CLASS AND INSTRUCTIONAL USES HAVE PRIORITY on the 2nd floor West Campus Library Research Computers and Computer Access Lab and SPACE Computers.
During high-use hours between 10 am and 2 pm, Monday through Friday, computer use is limited to RESEARCH AND CLASSROOM-RELATED ACTIVITIES ONLY.
DESIGNATED Quick-Check E-mail Computers are located on the 1st floor of the West Campus Library and in the 2nd Floor Library Loft. UPLOADING AND EMAILING FILES TO PROFESSORS IS ALLOWED on all West Campus Library computers.
TOP UNACCEPTABLE USE
- Chat rooms (unless part of a Valencia course).
- Displaying images, sound or text which disrupts or creates an atmosphere of distress or harassment of other users.
- Committing illegal or unethical acts, including unauthorized entry ("hacking") into other computers.
- Willful damaging or altering computer hardware or software. Internet hardware/software is to be used as installed and cannot be modified, deleted or enhanced.
- Downloading or installing inappropriate files, programs, etc., to any hard drive or network drive.
- Downloading any music or video programs to hard drive or to external hardware.
- Using any Valencia computers for commercial purposes.
- All forms of computer games, gambling or other games of chance.
- Violating software license agreements, copyright laws and fair use provisions through inappropriate reproduction or dissemination of licensed or copyrighted text, images, etc. Consider everything on the Internet to be copyrighted or licensed.
- Logging in with an Atlas Username or PIN that does not correspond to the current user.
- Giving an Atlas Username or PIN to another individual for the purposes of allowing access to Valencia computers.

WHEN YOU LOG IN TO A COMPUTER YOU ARE AGREEING TO THE FOLLOWING:
- To comply with the statements above.
- To limit your computer use to 2 hours during peak research times on 2nd floor Research Computers.
- To save your work only to USB drive, 3 ½" disk (select computers on 2nd floor only) or CD (1st floor Computer Access Lab only).
- To respectfully respond to requests by college staff regarding behavior and activities at the computer.
Failure to abide by our Acceptable Use statement will result in the user's access privileges being revoked.
