Housing
One of the most important things you will need to take care of
before you start your studies in the United States is finding a
place to live. This is an important decision since it will be one
of your biggest expenses and will affect your personal and academic
adjustment. Everyone is happiest and most productive in surroundings
that are comfortable to them. In general, the amount you spend for
housing should be limited to one-fourth or one-third of the total
amount you have planned to spend on living expenses. If the cost
is one-half of your budget or more, you may be spending too much.
It is especially important to consider location in selecting your
housing. If you live farther than walking distance from the campus,
it may prove to be inconvenient unless you are close to public transportation
or you have a car.
Valencia Community College is a commuter school and therefore does
not offer student housing. The College assumes no responsibility
for any housing arrangements made by students; we provide this information
only to help you get started with your search:
The following web site may help you find apartments and other
housing options close to the campus you will be attending: http://www.forrent.com
. When conducting your search, you can select Valencia East
or Valencia West areas. If attending the Winter Park Campus, choose
"Winter Park" and "Maitland" areas; for Osceola
Campus, choose "Kissimmee."
If you would prefer to live with a family during your stay, the
International Housing Placement Service (IHPS) may be able to assist
you: http://www.ihpshomestays.com/
. IHPS is a private company and is not associated with Valencia
Community College; the contact is provided here only as information
about alternative housing possibilities, and any arrangements you
choose to make are strictly between you (the student) and IHPS.
Valencia Community College does not offer, endorse, or bear responsibility
for any student housing.
