International Study and Exchange

Determining Your Budget

When shopping for a study abroad program, look at how much bang you are getting for your buck. Do not simply choose a program because the fee seems low. Look at what is included in the fee, and better yet, what is not included and how much additional money you would need to spend. The total cost of a study abroad experience is never the program fee advertised on the brochure.
Make copies of the following Budget Form to determine the total cost of studying abroad on two or more programs. If many items are included in the program fee, then plug the program fee under tuition and write the word "included" on the lines of the items that fall under this fee. Be sure to find figures for everything. Then add the lines together for a total.
