Honors Program

Interdisciplinary Studies Curriculum

The Interdisciplinary Studies Honors curriculum (IDH) covers 24 hours of the student's general education requirement by integrating the disciplines of English, humanities, the social sciences, and the natural sciences. Students can take all or part of the program.

Interdisciplinary Studies is team-taught by four faculty members from several academic disciplines, and provides students with a strong background for further college work. Courses in the IDH Program are offered in Fall Term and Spring Term each year.

This program provides an exciting opportunity for students to see the connections between branches of knowledge and to see the exchange of ideas that take place between the arts and the sciences. Emphasis is placed on students' critical thinking abilities – their ability to read, write, speak and analyze effectively and on their ability to think creatively.

Students from the IDH program have distinguished themselves in fields as varied as ownership of small businesses, the medical professions, architecture, advertising, counseling, education, and international relations.

In addition to excellent preparation for further college work, the IDH program also offers students the opportunity for faculty mentoring, leadership development, and varied cultural and social activities. Together these services form a comprehensive educational package that addresses the special needs of honors students.
