Financial Aid

What if I cannot attend all of my classes?

IMPORTANT NOTICE! If you withdraw or stop attending all of your classes, you may be required to repay a portion of the financial aid that was awarded to you. Financial aid students are expected to attend classes and make successful progress toward a degree. If for any reason, you must miss a class or need to withdraw, you must take action! Contact your professor about making up the work you have missed. Be aware that Valencia professors may withdraw you from their classes if you miss class meetings or arrive tardy too often. Refer to your professor’s syllabus for the class attendance policy.

  1. Abandoning classes. Do not simply stop going to class without notifying anyone. Withdraw yourself through your Atlas account as soon as you have decided you can no longer attend.
  2. If you must withdraw from any of your courses, your aid could be affected. You must meet academic progress requirements to continue receiving aid, and withdrawn courses will affect this. You are strongly encouraged to meet with a Financial Aid Specialist to discuss the potential impact on your financial aid.
  3. Dropping all classes. If you officially drop your classes before the end of the 100% refund deadline, tuition charges will be reversed and you will not be eligible for any financial aid. You will be required to either return or pay for any books purchased using financial aid. Courses dropped prior to the 100% refund deadline will not appear on your academic transcript. To benefit from the 100% refund period, you must take official action to drop your courses.
  4. If you withdraw from your classes after the 100% refund deadline, no tuition will be refunded and the courses will appear on your academic transcript. If you withdraw from all classes within the first 60% of the term, or if you stop going to classes without notification, a pro–rated portion of your aid must be returned to the aid program. You will be billed for the amount of aid you must repay, and holds will be placed on your record until your bill is paid in full. A detailed handout that explains the calculation is available upon request. If you have a student loan, the grace period prior to repayment will begin on the last date you attended classes. Information about your student loan repayment will be sent to you. Repayment of your loan will begin 6 months after the last day of attendance.
