Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need to be a student at Valencia to apply to the Nursing program?

A: Yes. You must apply to the college before you submit a Nursing application. You can apply online at www.valenciacc.edu/admissions or email enrollment@valenciacc.edu to begin the admission process.

 

Q: Can International students to apply to the Nursing program?

A: No. To be eligible to apply to Valencia's Nursing program, you must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

 

Q: What courses do I need to take prior to applying to the Nursing program?

A: The pre-requisite courses required prior to applying to the program (completed with a C or better) are:

      • BSC 2093C – Anatomy and Physiology I
      • BSC 2094C – Anatomy and Physiology II
      • MCB 2010C – Microbiology
      • PSY 1012 – General Psychology
      • DEP 2004 – Developmental Psychology
      • ENC 1101 – Freshman Composition
      • HUN 2202 – Essentials of Nutrition
      • PHI 2600 – Ethics and Critical Thinking OR PHI 2010 – Philosophy OR any course with HUM prefix.

     

Q: Are the Pre-requisite courses offered online?

A: General education courses are offered on campus and online. However, science courses must be completed on campus.

 

Q: Do I have to take all the pre-requisites at a particular campus?

A: No, you may take the pre-requisite course at any Valencia campus location. However, if accepted, Nursing courses are only offered on the West and Osceola campuses.

 

Q: Will my courses from other colleges transfer to Valencia?

A: Once you have applied to Valencia, you will need to request official transcripts sent from your previous institution. The admissions office will evaluate all transcripts once they are received to determine transfer credit.

 

Q: Do I need to take the Nursing Entrance Test (NET) before I apply?

A: Yes. You must complete the NET at a Valencia Assessment Center and receive a 65% on the overall composite score and 65% on the reading composite score. 

 

Q: What is the minimum cumulative GPA to apply to the Nursing program?

A:  The minimum GPA required to apply to the program is 2.5.

 

Q: What is the deadline to apply to the Nursing program?

A: There are no deadlines to apply for Nursing.  Once a student has completed all of the 8 pre-requisites with a grade of C or better, obtained the required scores on the NET, and has a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5, the student can submit their application to the Nursing program.  Applications are date stamped upon receipt and placed in date order on the waitlist.

 

Q: How long is the waitlist?

A: Currently the wait is one year from the term in which the program application is submitted. 

 

Q: What can I do while I am waiting to begin the program?

A: Many students complete their AA degree.  There are also additional courses that you can take if you plan to continue at a university for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.  Another option is to complete a technical program such as our EMT Diploma and begin working in the health care field.  There are many technical schools in the area that offer certifications such as Patient Care Tech, Nursing Assistant, and Phlebotomy.  Please contact the university or technical center you are interested in attending to inquire about their requirements.

 

Q: How many students are accepted into the Nursing program and how often?

A: The Nursing program accepts 120 students for the fall term, 120 for the Spring term, and 70 for the summer.

 

Q: What is the schedule like if I am accepted into the Nursing program?

A: The schedule is M-F during the day. We do not offer a part-time or evening program. Clinical hours vary each semester from 12-24 hours per week in addition to the required credit hours of class/lab time.
