National Walk-at-Lunch Day is Wednesday, April 29. Did you know that experts recommend that adults get at least 30 minutes of moderate activity, five times per week. If those 30 minutes are achieved in one session that means taking a minimum of 3,000 steps in 30 minutes. However, researchers point out in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine that walkers can also break those steps down into several shorter exercise sessions throughout the day. So mark your calendars and get a walk in at lunch on April 29.

News from Procurement

Supplier Diversity - Because one of our college goals is to support local, woman and minority owned companies, we encourage our departments to maximum utilization of our diverse supplier communities like Native American, Woman/Women owned, African American, Hispanic American, and Asian American. If you need help identifying any one of these suppliers, please call us at ext. 5532.

The Procurement Office seeks active participation through advertisements, Invitations to Bid and Requests for Proposals for procurement activities. We have also established negotiated contracts with several local, minority owned businesses for items such as toner cartridges, name tags, stamps, paper, and custodial supplies.

Solicitors Calling - Beware of solicitors calling you regarding your copier toner needs. This is a scam and the college will be billed an over inflated price for the goods. Our current copier company DOES NOT call employees. Orders are placed when needed, and the company supply/service phone number is found on the unit. Toner cartridge supplies are included in our service agreement. All invoices for supplies, service or freight should be sent to Procurement at MC 4-42.

General Operating Fund 1 Expenditures - These funds are considered ‘State’ funds and expenses should be limited to educational or administrative expenses. We are required by statute and rule to apply a fiduciary responsibility over the expenditure of tax payer funds. With the exception of limited promotion and public relations accounts, these funds CANNOT be used for: food or beverages, coffee or coffee supplies, entertainment, departmental social functions, holiday decorations for the office, office decorations for the office, employee awards, gifts or recognitions, party supplies, personal items, tissues and cleaning supplies.

VCC Procurement hosts FMSDC Chapter Meeting - On April 28th, your Procurement Office will host the Chapter Meeting for FMSDC (Florida Minority Supplier Development Council, Inc) on West Campus in Building 8. FMSDC is an organization that helps promote the use of local, minority owned firms in our area.  Valencia has been a member of FMSDC since 2003. All are welcomed to attend. The meeting will start at 9 a.m. and adjourn by 11 a.m.

Thank You

Cathy and I would like to express our thanks to all of you who sent us cards, email, thoughts, and prayers during the recent illness and death of her mother, Ruth Lott. She was quite a woman and will be missed greatly. Your individual and corporate support meant and means so very much to us, and our family.

Thank you, David Hosman
