Applications are now being accepted for the 2009-10 Endowed Chairs for Learning Leadership Program. The program provides resources to full-time, tenured faculty for the advancement of instruction and learning. This year the Valencia Foundation is offering one application round of 39 chairs, altogether totaling $162,700. The guidelines and application package can be found on the foundation’s website at http://www.valencia. org/ or by calling Shauna Anstey at ext. 3211. Applications must be received in College & Community Relations by April 13 at 5:00 p.m.

Transition and Enrollment Services

Have you ever wondered how so many students get connected to Valencia?

Well that’s what the Transition and Enrollment Services team is here to do. We serve as a point of contact for many of the students walking through our doors for the first time. We do this by:

  • Hosting on-campus events
  • Going out into the community to inform future students about Valencia’s programs and the college admissions process
  • Operate two call centers located on the East and West campuses which answer prospective and current student questions
  • Support and partner with other departments on all Valencia Campuses
  • Our department reach thousands of new and prospective students at over 100 recruitment events each semester
  • In addition to our recruitment events, we sponsor and coordinate signature events including Valencia Previews, the Go Higher Get Accepted Campaign, Saturday Academy, Youth Education Day, High School Feud, and Career Carnivals - these spring events connect us with thousands of prospective students and bring many of them to visit our campuses.
  • Our enrollment call centers served just over 10,000 students in our first two weeks of the Spring semester alone, and will continue to serve around another 2,000 students each week for the duration of the semester.

Transition & Enrollment Services is committed to empower the community through various outreach activities. Our focus is to promote Valencia’s educational programs and support our prospective and current students as they achieve their career goals.

Prospective students can schedule a tour at their campus of choice by visiting our department’s website at www.valenciacc.edu/transitions or they can speak with a live college representative by calling our enrollment center at
407-582-2330.

Procurement News

There will be no download of P-Card transactions on April 1 due to the upgrade to Banner 8. Please continue to review and approve your transactions in PaymentNet and verify there is sufficient budget. Downloads will resume on April 8. Should you have any questions, please call Kacy Weekes at ext. 1974.

Second successful sustainability meeting at Valencia - On March 3 Procurement and Facilities hosted our second sustainability meeting on West Campus. Those presenting at the conference included Ed Ames, Valencia’s director of Procurement; Deborah Green, Water Media Services; Kevin Lyons, Rutgers University; Robyn Dowsey, LEED AP, Wharton-Smith; Chef Al Rosas, CCP and Erin Rosas, CHCC, Rosas Organic Farms; and Jim Thomas, Biosphere Consulting. Vendors participating in the trade show included Peninsular Paper, Orlando Utilities Commission, GE Electric Vehicles, Office Depot, American Ad Specialties, Steelcase, Baker Barrios Architects, Florida Business Interiors, Valencia's Sustainability Committee, and Promotional Products Solutions. Each speaker and trade show vendor had something to share and all who participated walked away with door prizes and a better understanding of ‘going green’.

Viewing of attached documents in Banner - Procurement has been attaching Supplier Business Profiles & W-9 forms to vendors entered into the system since July 1, 2008. We are in the process of attaching forms to vendors who were entered prior to this date. To view a supplier attachment, use the Banner form: FOAIDEN and click on the attachment icon in the header.

On the Purchase Order side, we are attaching quotes or any other pertinent information to the PO number. To view these attachments, use the Banner form: FPIPURR and click on the attachment icon in the header:

Vendors doing business with the college - a Vendor Business Profile and W-9 form are both required for any vendor or person that conducts business with the college. The information provided on these two forms is entered into our Banner database. Checks from the college to a vendor cannot be issued without these forms. Suppliers are set up based on their reporting name to the IRS; therefore the W-9 form is a IRS required form. Suppliers using a DBA can difficult to find because of this reason. Remember that no employee, acting in a private capacity, shall rent, lease, or sell any realty, goods, or services to the college.

Contact anyone on the procurement staff before entering into any type of agreements to procure goods or services on behalf of the college. All requests and questions concerning vendor updates and set ups should be directed to valenciaprocurement @valenciacc.edu or by calling ext. 5532.

Office Depot Online - Procurement's contract with Office Depot offers up to 40 % discounts to our departments. To take advantage of these great savings visit their website at http://bsd.officedepot.com. If you do not have a login yet, please contact Annmarie Wise at ext. 5543 or Janet Vivian at ext. 5542.

If your department frequently buys a commodity or service that is not currently on contract, please contact anyone in Procurement and we will work to establish a competitively bid or negotiated contract or agreement on your behalf. We are always open for suggestions so please let us know how we can better meet your needs. Feel free to sent comments, ideas and suggestions directly to Ed Ames, director, at eames@valenciacc.edu. A list of awarded bids and request for proposals is available for viewing at the Procurement web site at http://www.valenciacc.edu/procurement/bids.asp

Thank You

On the occasion of my retirement, I want to extend warm thanks and appreciation to everyone at the College with whom I have worked, learned, and had a great time over the past 20 years. It has been such a good place to work and grow! I am deeply grateful for all the professional partnerships, encouragement, support and friendships that we developed and shared together over time, and I wish you all the best for both your personal and college endeavors.

Sincerely, Ann Puyana

On behalf of my family, our sincere appreciation and heartfelt thanks for the out pouring of cards, and phone calls during the passing of my brother Leon Riley.

Thanks for your support and encouragement, Lois Riley
