Visions and Voices

American singer/songwriter Susan Werner will be performing at 1 p.m. on February 5 in the East Campus Performing Arts Center as part of the 2008/2009 Visions and Voices series.

Werner was raised in rural Iowa and began her professional music career in Philadelphia, after earning a degree in voice from the University of Iowa and completing her graduate studies at Temple University in Philadelphia. Werner left behind her opera training and began performing as a singer-songwriter at coffee houses throughout the northeast. She released her first album, Midwestern Saturday Night, in 1992 and then Live at Tin Angel the following year.  From 1993–2004 she released several more albums and in 2006 made a splash on satellite radio with her "alternative national anthem" entitled, "My Strange Nation.”  Werner's new release, Classics, delivers entirely new string arrangements of mainstream popular songs by top songwriters from a "classical" pop era - the sixties and seventies.

For more information please contact Nichole McPherson at nmcpherson@valenciacc.edu or ext. 3121.

Accounts Payable Request

When submitting paperwork to accounts payable, please try not to use staples to attach backup. Tape all receipts and back-up information on the back of the paperwork or on a clean piece of paper. Use binder clips or paperclips, when necessary. Invoices, check requests, per diem, travel requests and any other paperwork sent to AP needs to be scanned.

We will be able to process your requests in a more timely fashion if you avoid stapling your paperwork. Thank you for your help on this issue.

Payroll News

A comprehensive, printable pay stub is now available through Employee Self Service in Atlas. We will continue to print direct deposit stubs through the February 6 payroll so you can compare your payroll information to your online stub. Beginning with the February 20 payroll, your direct deposit stub will only be available online through Atlas and a paper pay stub will no longer be printed and distributed. To access the online pay stub you must:

  • Log into ATLAS.
  • Navigate to the "Employees" tab.
  • Select “Pay Stub (by payday)" under Employee Services, Pay Information.
  • Select a pay stub year from the pull-down menu and click "Display."
  • Click on the pay stub date for the pay stub you wish to view/print.

If you have questions or comments, please contact Joe Livingston, ext. 8069, or Bettie Cooper, ext. 8100.

Procurement News

Being green at work - As an employee, here are a few simple things you can do to be green at work:

  • Print double sided whenever possible
  • Reuse the back of a piece of used paper for draft documents before you recycle the paper
  • Turn off your computer screen when you are away from your desk for long periods of time

PCard Advisory - Please do not pay for conferences, events, or classes hosted by Valencia Community College with a Procurement Card (This includes classes held at Valencia Enterprises).  Paying ourselves with a credit card causes the College to incur unnecessary bank fees. Instead, please contact the Budget or Finance office so a journal entry can be completed to process such payments.

Office Depot Catalogs - The new 2008/2009 Office Depot Catalogs are in. You can order your new catalog (item number 337244) free of charge, on your next office supply order.

Office Depot has reorganized their account management team and Valencia has been assigned a new account manager, Tina Russo Wheeler. Contact information for Tina is: Tina Russo Wheeler, Account Manager, Education Specialist, Phone: 800-821-4624, ext. 5524, Fax: 407-859-2037, Cell: 407-803-6009, Email: tina.wheller@officedepot.com

News from Property Control

Minor technology equipment purchases should not to be confused with other minor equipment. When minor technology equipment is needed (i.e. less than $1,000) accounts 705060 and 705065 (assistive technology) are used when purchasing laptops and computers ONLY.  Everything else should use 705070 and 705075 respectively. Following are several examples to help explain:

  • Example 1:  A PC costing $900 wants to be purchased. When the requisition is created, the account number to be used will be 705060. Reason:  This is a computer.
  • Example 2:  A department needs to purchase a new monitor for an existing PC for $400. When the requisition is created, the account number to be used will be 705070. Reason:  This is not a laptop or computer.
  • Example 3:  Mr. S. has enough funds in his budget to purchase a MSI Wind Netbook for $495. When the requisition is created, the account number to be used will be 705060. Reason:  This is a laptop.
  • Example 4: A large 24” screen monitor costing $450 is needed for a department using assistive technology. When the requisition is created, the account number to be used will be 705075. Reason:  This is not a laptop or a computer. It is used with assistive technology.

Contact Jill Szentmiklosi, ext. 2236 for guidance when purchasing assistive technology.
