CPT- FAQ's

Do I have to apply to Valencia first? In order to test at Assessment Services, you must have an active application on file. and a government issued photo ID. Admissions application must be completed 5 business days prior to testing.

What should I bring on test day? You must bring a government issued photo ID, such as a driver's license and your Valencia ID number.

Can I retake the CPT? If you are eligible to retake the CPT, you must complete the CPT Review Sessions. There must be at least 1 day between CPT retakes. A student is eligible for a retest if:

  • you have only tested once within the last two years.
  • you have not begun the prep coursework in the subject area.
  • your test scores are over two years old, and you have not begun the prep coursework in the subject area.
  • your test scores and prep coursework are more than two years old.

As of July 1, 2009, there will be a $10 retake fee per subsection of the CPT.

Are any testing aids allowed? Textbooks, notebooks, dictionaries, calculators, or other testing aids of any kind (except scratch paper provided by the Test Administrator) are not allowed.

Is guessing allowed? You should understand that this is an adaptive test. Questions are chosen for you on the basis of your answers to previous questions. Because the test works this way, you must answer every question when it is first given. You cannot omit any questions or come back later to change an answer. This is why we strongly encourage you to study!

What if I need special accommodations? If you have a disability or temporarily disabling condition that will prevent you from taking the test under standard conditions, inform the Test Administrator before taking the test. These requests should be made directly to the Test Administrator at your college.
