CLEP - College Level Examination Program

As a Valencia student, you may gain credit from College Board in certain specified courses by passing examinations of the College Level Examination Program (CLEP).  You must be a Valencia student to take the CLEP test, and all tests are for Valencia credit. Valencia does not award credit for all of the CLEP exams that are provided by College Board. Test credit is applied according to the published policy at the time the credit is received and posted by the college. In July of 2001, CLEP transitioned to a computer based test.  The test is offered Monday thru Friday on the East, West and Osceola Campuses.

WHAT IS CLEP?

If you have superior knowledge in the content area covered by a college level course and have acquired the skills taught in that course through previous learning or experience, you may challenge that course through the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) from the College Board. If you make the required score you will receive college credit without having to attend classes.

HOW COULD I KNOW IF CLEP IS FOR ME?

Go to the library at Valencia Community College or to a local library or bookstore and ask to see The Official Handbook for the CLEP Examination. Look at the test description and the sample questions. If you can't answer the questions don't invest your time and money in the exam. If you can answer the questions, discuss CLEP with a member of the counseling staff before registering for the test. Ask whether CLEP is a good choice for your educational plan. Be sure to check CLEP policies at institutions where you might transfer in the future.
