There are few professions which are changing as quickly as the field of public service. At no point in history has the criminal justice field been so important to the safety and security of our country. And with lawyers depending on Paralegals more and more to perform substantive legal work to increase the efficiency of their legal services, the demand for Paralegals is growing at a rapid pace.

Job Outlook:

  • Opportunities are excellent for the criminal justice profession. There are approximately 500 law enforcement and correctional agencies within the state of Florida, employing over 63,000 officers.

  • A more security-conscious society and concern about drug-related crimes should contribute to the increasing demand for police services.

  • The increase of criminal activity on the Internet, such as identity theft, spamming, e-mail harassment, and illegal downloading of copyrighted materials will increase the demand for private detectives and investigators.
  • Police officers, deputy sheriffs and correctional officers are listed among the Top 50 Fastest-Growing Occupations in our local Region.
  • According to the U.S. Department of Labor, out of the Top 250 Occupations with the Most New Openings, Paralegals and Legal Assistants has the third highest number of annual openings from 2004 - 2014.
  • The majority of job openings for Paralegals in the future will be new jobs created by rapid employment growth. Employment growth stems from law firms increasingly hiring Paralegals to lower the cost and increase the availability and efficiency of legal services.
