These are short-term programs that can be completed in one year or less. They are designed to equip you with a specialized skill set for immediate employment or job advancement. All of the certificate courses are also included in the related A.S. degree program so they can be used as building blocks toward completing the degree -- which will help improve your earning potential.

Medical Office Specialist (18 credits)
Medical Office Support (12 credits)
Program Description:
The medical profession is rapidly evolving, and with this
evolution comes the need for highly skilled support personnel.
Valencia's A.S. degree program in Medical Office Administration
prepares students for careers as office support staff and
medical transcriptionists in medical offices, hospitals, and
other health-care organizations. Medical transcriptionists
provide vital support for physicians as they transcribe dictation
from doctors and other healthcare professionals into medical
reports, correspondence, and other administrative records.
Some examples of documents produced are discharge summaries,
history and physical examination reports, operating room reports,
and consultation reports. These documents eventually become
part of the patient's permanent files.

Microsoft Office Specialist
Typical Tasks may include:
listening to dictated recordings made by physicians and accurately transcribing them into medical reports
translating medical jargon and abbreviations into expandable forms
producing documents that include discharge summaries, diagnostic imaging studies and history and exam reports.
