This is a short-term program that can be completed in one year or less. It is designed to equip you with a specialized skill set for immediate employment or job advancement. All of the certificate courses are also included in the related A.S. degree program so it can be used as a building block toward completing the degree -- which will help improve your earning potential.

Medical Information Coder/Biller (34 credits)
Program Description:
Valencia's Medical Information Coder/Biller Administration
degree is designed to prepare students for employment as coders
in a variety of health-care settings. Medical record technicians
assign appropriate ICD 9 or CM and/or CPT codes to each diagnosis
and procedure, consult classification manuals and rely on
their knowledge of disease processes. These technicians are
key partners in patient care because they assign patients
to "DRG's" resulting in appropriate insurance reimbursement
and billing. Also they may at times be asked to tabulate and
analyze data to help improve patient care, control costs,
and for use in legal actions and research studies.
Prepares for Industry Certification in:
Microsoft Office Specialist
Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
Certified Coding Associate (CCA)
Typical Tasks may include:
assembling and organizing patients' health information
evaluating patients' health care records for accuracy and completeness
consulting classification manuals and assigning "DRG" codes to each diagnosis and procedure for billing
