DOORS OF OPPORTUNITY
written by Barbara Frazier and Susan Howells

Debbie had not worked in the human resources area for a few years due to the downsizing of her company, but her passion for HR lived on. A former associate recommended she contact a local recruiting and placement firm. Debbie hesitated at first, wondering if accepting a contract position through a recruiting agency would be considered a step back in her career. Little did she realize that this step would be a strategic and substantial move in the right direction.

When Debbie contacted the Tews Company, a top placement firm in Orlando , she was pleasantly surprised by what she encountered - a team of professional recruiters eager to re-ignite her human resources career. They thoroughly reviewed her past experience, discussed her future goals, and recommended she interview for a contract recruiting position with a large, established Central Florida company.

Tews experts arranged for Debbie to interview with the company and all parties were delighted with the results. Debbie got her foot in the door as she had hoped, and a few months later, the company offered her a full-time position.

Getting your foot in the door with a company can take many paths: You may take the traditional route and apply directly to a company for a permanent position. Or, you may opt to work through a recruiting agency for a period of time. The latter choice has some advantages you may not have realized:

  • It is entirely free for the job seeker!
  • Recruitment firms have established relationships with top local companies
  • Recruiters work closely with you in meeting your personal career goals
  • Recruiters do the legwork for you, sharing your work experience and arranging for multiple job interviews
  • Recruitment firms have the inside track on numerous full-time, professional positions
  • Taking a contract position is your opportunity to experience the company's culture, "show your stuff," and research permanent positions

Valencia Community College values the opportunity and advantages Central Florida's recruiting companies offer to all Valencia alumni. It has teamed up with six local recruiting firms, including the Tews Company, to open more doors of opportunity than ever before!
